Overwatch having trouble launching with Avast 21.3.2459 (build 21.3.6164.652)

Since the April 14th Avast software update, Overwatch shows black screen upon launching and it takes very long time for the game to open & when it does fps is awful.

The only method to solving this problem is by disabling all Avast shields while the game is running. I’ve tried unninstaling Avast & then installing a fresh version but it only helped temporary and it

was problematic again.

Saw that this problem was reported by some users here a couple of years ago:

Fix this Avast or i’m gonna be forced to switch to another anti-virus software like Bitdefender.

Hello i have the same exact problem with diablo 3.i press play from battle net and it doesnt connect to server ,screen frozes and eventually crashes.I did same as you reinstalled avast ,the first time it launches well but then again the same

  1. Enable debug logging (Menu > Settings > General > Troubleshooting > Enable debug logging) and reproduce the issue.
  2. Follow instructions: https://support.avast.com/article/33/ and post the File-ID or name of the Support-File here afterwards.

Hello there, I pointed it out here https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=260771.0 - problem #3
Try running x86 version with shields up (under settings “launch 32-bit”)
Problem is not with the game itself but with Avast since last update.

Unfortunately, Overwatch is only in 64-bit unlike Diablo.

solution i used in windows 7 (edit : finally won’t work)

  • restart in safe mode

  • use the avast uninstall tool

  • restart in safe mode

  • in command prompt search for all avast files (dir avast*.* /s), if find delete them in files explorer

  • restart in normal mode

  • install avast (free version) with offline installer

  • restart in normal mode

  • update virus base if needed

Launch battle.net and overwatch, everything work fine

Edit : NO THAT WON’T WORK

on first launch of battle.net + overwatch all work fine

but after leaving battle.net + overwatch, and launch them again

the problem is coming back, no access to servers

(sorry english not my native language)

The only temporary solution that i found on blizzard forums is to disable rootkit detection or behavior shield. That is for avast free and windows 10.

Hi,

the temporal fix was released in the VPS yesterday.

Can you let us know if the issue still persist when the AntiRootkit is enabled?

Thanks,
PDI

I have launch Battle.net & Overwatch and played team online games without problem.

To be sure I do this 3 times after quitting Battle.net and Overwatch and launch them again. The 3 times I played online games without problem.

Before doing this I manually updated to the last version of Avast virus base.

(Windows 7 x64, Avast Free, AntiRootkit On, behavior shield On)

Yes, Overwatch works properly now with all of the 7 shields enabled.

Thank you very much for this fix.
