Package is Broken

Hi, I have used avast for several months now and am very pleased with it. However, in the last week or so, I keep getting the red screen when it tries to update the virus files. The error message says the package is broken. I have been able to update manually after several tries, and hoped that once the update had been accepted that the error message would disappear. Not so. Any ideas as to why this is happening. I am behind a proxy, but have had no problems until just recently.

Hm,try Repairing avast! instalaltion.
Go to Add-Remove Programs,select avast!,and then Repair function in avast!'s own uninstaller.

If you have dialup you might have encountered packet loss and the update was corrupted. Just my guess…

there is an issue with the latest update that effects proxy settings as explained in this thread http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=10195.30
while there was no mention of 'package broken ’ I think its worth checking .

I had the same problem(see post on december 26,2005). To correct the problem, I went into control panel, into internet options, clicked connections tab, and clicked lan settings button. I put a check in the “automatically detect settings” box and unchecked the next box down that dealt with proxy servers. It fixed mine. good luck!!!
