Package is broken ?

What mean: Package is broken ?

Ive got that message today couple times and it tooked time to get VPS updating files.
My computer was closed couple days so can it be the answer for error message ?

Operating system : Win 2000 Pro.

It means that something when wrong with the data transfer.

Possible causes:

  • bad connection
  • corrupted file
    etc etc

What should you do in this case, as when I have experienced this error, attempting to force the update again doesn’t work; avast tells me it is already up to date.

  1. there’s a new version uploaded just a couple of hours ago (4.6.691)
  2. if that doesn’t help, use the Repair feature (Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs → avast antivirus → Change/Remove)

:) It was a pleasant surprise to recieve Avast! (4.6.691) It's refreshed all my settings, or I reviewed them , and has a good looking on-acess protection control panel. Nice work team Avast!

OK i tried to do the updates automatically and got the error message that it couldn’t be done. so i went and did them manually and got the PACKAGE IS BROKEN message. it is nice to know someone else had the problem to and wrote about it here first.
i to had my computer down for a few days and thought it might have had something to do with it. i kept trying to update it but with no results.
i took the suggestion of going to control panel and trying to update/repair it there but i got this message ERROR THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE UPDATE or something like that. so basically it will not update to the latest program.
Do you have any other suggestions as to how to fix this?
I’m running win98SE and am on a cable modem

Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?
Which is your firewall?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

yes i did try the repair.

explain this install/uninstall boot part to me? how do you go about doing that? will i have to get a new registration number if i uninstall the program and reinstall it?

No, you can use the same registration number.
Doing that is the ‘last’ solution. You should take it only if repair did not work…
