I did a quick search and saw the only (older threads) recommendation of a full reinstall of avast. Are there any links where I can download the latest nightly virus definition / program updates that will self-correct this issue?
I was using the program during work and it just blue screened on me during an update and now won’t allow new updates.
Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
I would first try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This may repair what is broken in the update process, if that doesn’t work then go for the manual virus definition download and if that fails then a clean reinstall.
