I have read the comments about the packet rule GUI not working correctly, but my problem is the rule itself isn’t working, or I am configuring something wrong. I have a printer on my network at ip 192.168.10.9. I created a rule to block all protocols in/out to that ip address. I left the ports blank. I tried this rule both at the top and bottom of the list. Also I changed my friends list to only allow 192.168.11.0 to 192.168.255.255. My program version is 5.0.677. Of course the program will not display the rule as “block”.
When I open a command prompt, I can ping this ip address and get a reply just fine. And a test page prints ok as well.
Am I missing something? Do packet rules take precedence over everything? Or is there a priority order of which part of the program controls the firewall?
???
the packet rules panel is a mess, I don’t touch it anymore ;D new rules not being added, out of the box rules impossible to modify etc… Firewall stopping to work properly after you’ve “played” with the packet rules etc… hope they will fix all that in V6.
ps: only talking about my experience with that a few months ago. I didn’t attempt any change since then.
Hi thanks for the replies. Well I have tried the beta version, and although the UI will save the “block” in the display, the rule still does not work. In fact I blocked the general ping rule as well, and am still able to ping www.google.com just fine!!! (tried restarting the workstation after modifying rule)
So I will follow up on this in the beta newsgroup now I think later today. thanks again both of you
