PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA after updating Avast free on Windows 10 Pro

I went to perform a scan this morning and like normal, I updated my Avast (free) to the latest version. After that, it told me I had to reboot so I did. After the reboot, Windows continually displayed “PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA” with something in parenthesis, but it kept going by too fast for me to write it down. Anyway, I booted into safe mode and removed Avast and was able to boot back into Windows normally. Is there something going on with the new version? It’s never done that before. Not until I updated this morning.

By the way, I uninstalled Avast (free) and it booted fine. I then reinstalled it and after the reboot I got the same error, so again, I went into safe mode and removed it just so I could boot correctly.

I’m running a Dell Optiplex 745 with 4GB RAM, an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz processor, a 2TB hard drive and Windows 10 Professional (64 bit).

If you need any log files, etc… let me know. I’m not sure where or what I would need to send you. I REALLY don’t want to reinstall Avast until this gets resolved, but if you need me to just to find out what’s in the parenthesis, I will. But please don’t make me!! It scared the he!! out of me having that error continually pop up!

Thanks
Ed

Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB33#artTitle

That’s means I have to reinstall it again and once I reboot, I’ll have the same problems. Can I run that program in safe mode?

Ed

Hi Ed, no need to reinstall, just follow the instructions.
If a minidump was created, it’ll get uploaded…

Ok, I created support ticket number 396255 and ran the program. I have three files in my user folder. Do I need to attach them here?

My File ID is 5IFOE if that helps.

Ed

  1. OK, you should get a reply within two business days.
  2. Nope.

Thank you sir. I do appreciate it.

Ed

You’re welcome.

Just curious, did you use the removal tool when you removed avast and then re-installed it ???

Clean Install of Avast:

I went to Windows Programs and Features and removed it that way.

Ed

That only removes a portion of Avast which is why I asked the question and supplied the information for a clean install.

Thanks. I just uninstalled it using your link.
