Yes, the license info was also sent by email but I wasn’t asked for it during or after the download. When I started avast, it stated Avast free. I assume it should say Avast Pro.
The question is…what is the license that you paid for? That is what you should be downloading. The link I sent you is for all the download versions and you can pick the one you have the license for.
You will need to uninstall the Free version if that is what you have on your machine now.
Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool. Uninstall all prior versions and products of Avast at this time.
Reboot.
Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for Pro.
Thanks for that. now that the old free version has been deleted, the new version seems to be loading OK. HOWEVER, when I download the license sent by avast by email, and then try to open it, Windows says that it can’t recognise the programme that created the license file. Aaarrgghh.
1 - Removed free version
2 - reboot
3 - downloaded and installed anti-virus
4 - given option for trial or licensed version and selected licensed
5 - Requested to enter license file
6 - Went to email and clicked on attachment for license file which downloaded fine
7 - clicked to open file and told that the programme that created the file is unrecognisable.
So everything is working fine now? If so, please go back to the first open post in this topic, click the modify button in that Post and change the title/subject, add [Resolved] to the beginning of the title so this thread can be closed.
