Paid product auto renewal

Just purchased Internet Security and I want to leave auto renewal enabled, but my concerns are:

  1. How many days out does Avast renew and how many days out does Avast send a pre-renewal notification.

  2. Cost - Hopefully there is a discount for leaving auto renewal on, I really don’t want to pay the full (3PC Internet Security) price listed on the website.

Thanks for the help!

I’ve never seen the price on an auto renewal beet the offers made when auto renewal doesn’t happen.
Without auto renewal, you you are in control.

Not really. Avast is not stupid. Probably a marketing ploy. First time around, yes I paid “full” price with annual renewal. At one time after that, I incidentally cancelled auto renewal only to find Avast came back with a “better/cheaper” offer. I still find $79.00 US price for Avast Secure Line a bit steep on auto renewal, but consider $59.99 US without auto renewal offer probably about the regular price for this product. I have been a stead fast customer of Avast for years and will continue. You alls just have to be aware of the game. 8)

Ok so just to familiarize myself with the process I went into the account management and clicked on cancel auto renewal and I was greeted with a list of three reasons to not cancel.

First two reasons were blah blah blah

But the third reason was you will miss out on the discount that auto renewal customer receive.

So that makes me feel more comfortable about leaving it enabled

Thanks for the reply

Actually, the third reason should have been removed/changed as that is no longer the case :-
I will ask for the status of the task.

So to clarify, you’re saying there is NO discount with automatic renewal?

Nowadays’ automatic renewals are charged at the price listed at the website. I can’t say what the price or discount will be next year

Seems crazy, having got a paying customer who has left Auto Renewal enabled to have no incentive for these paid users to continue with Auto Renewal.

Like ‘bob3160’ I see many offers for free users to convert to a paid option, if auto renewal isn’t doing that I see no point/incentive in having auto renewal enabled.

I have a couple of magazine subscriptions they aren’t auto renewal and they have always offered a discount for renewal (and they have to mail it to me). If they didn’t I wouldn’t find the price worthwhile, so for them 70% of something (the subscription) is better than 100% of nothing.

You can buy Avast! from ebay , for 2-5$ , 3PC -2 years.
Paying $70 for an antivirus seems a crazy idea…

Based off the replies I’ve received here I’ve cancelled the automatic renewal status of the license. And for extra measure I went into my PayPal account and canceled the subscription agreement with Digital River. (Because the Avast portal is still showing On going protection is still enabled) hopefully that will change soon.

I paid 29.99 for the first year of this license (IS 3PC). I don’t expect the 2 year to be that cheap but hopefully this time next year Avast will offer me a renewal price of at least 59.99. I can’t justify paying 79.99 despite how much I really like this product. That would be a roughly 130% price increase from year one.

So now do I just keep my eye out for a popup renewal offer or can I expect it through email?

Thanks for everyone’s help and input!

Caution…!! Most of these (too good to be true) offers are NOT legit…!!
Best to buy directly from Avast or from one of the authorized resellers.

Ok, just so everyone knows.

If you paid for the subscription with PayPal and then cancel the recurring payment to Digital River in PayPal it apparently cancels your entire order.

I called Digital River just to confirm I could still use PayPal in future purchases of Avast. and they then informed me the entire order had been terminated and they were issuing a refund because I cancelled the recurring payment option in PayPal.

This is insane!!!

Avast, Digital River and PayPal need to get on the same page…Cancelling a recurring payment agreement is not the same as terminating the original payment.

Digital River is telling me my subscription is no longer valid…But it’s still perfectly active when I enter the application or on My Avast account.

At no point did I ask for A refund from Avast or Digital River, but since I cancelled the reoccurring payment that’s how they interpreted it.

So I guess I will use this product for as long as it’s active and then hopefully I will see the refund soon if the product really is cancelled

At which point I can go purchase an AV from a non insane vendor and company.

As a paying customer, Avast what is going on?

Hi kevin IS,

Sorry to hear that, I am not quite sure what’s going on here. I can see that DR manually issued a refund but they shouldn’t do it if all what you wanted to do was to cancel the automatic renewal.
Let me check with them and I will get back to you. In the meantime I added a free licenses to your account as the one you currently have will get cancelled within few hours. You should see it available shortly in your account.
My apologies once more for this mess :frowning:

Thank you for your concern

The only thing in PayPal I cancelled was the recurring payment to digital river. (Not the 29.99 payment) that already went through.

I called Digital River to ensure because I cancelled the recurring payment I would still be able to manually purchase Avast products in the future through paypal via DR.

That’s when they told me I had cancelled the entire purchase and my product would be terminated and I would be refunded…NOT WHAT I WANTED!!!

Again, Thank you for trying to understand this complicated mess.

Amazing how all of this basically comes down to following my original advice:

Wish it weren’t so but unfortunately it is.
Time for some changes and time for some rewards for those customers that are the bread and butter for Avast.
