This new virus is doing the rounds and the majority of AV solution aren’t detecting it and this includes Avast! Thank goodness it is easy enough to manually remove. It seems to be propogating through Live Messenger.
I’ve sent Avast a sample of the nasty but so far haven’t heard anything back from them. Would have at least expected an acknowledgement of the email receipt!!!
They normally only contact you if they require any mor information.
Did you send it to virus @ avast.com in a zipped password protected attachment ?
Yes indeed. I followed the prescribed procedure for sending the virus sample in a password protected zip archive attached to the email. Also supplied follow up emails with more information, including the VirusTotal link.
Hopefully it will be added soon, but some have taken longer that isn’t good.
It would still be good to get an auto-reply or a manual reply from the virus @ avast.com email address so you know the virus sample has got to where it needs to be.
Should be something that is easy to do on the Alwil email server ;-).

I have been banging on for ages that at the very least there should be an auto responder message that acknowledges receipt and thanks the user for taking the time to send the sample, but then I’m just an avast user like you.
