password protection

When I scan with Avast 4 Home I get a message with a list of files which cannot be scanned because they are password protected. I have not password protected any files, to my knowledge, and I am the only person using my computer. Is there any way around getting Avast to scan these files? Or maybe I could release the “password protection” in some way? Thanks for a great forum, very helpful.

Thank you so much again David, you are a gem. This has put my mind at rest.

You’re welcome.

More importantly did you find what program was responsible for password protecting its files ?

I would like to look to see what program is responsible for the above, but I don’t know how to access previous Avast test runs, if I can. This morning I had scheduled a boot-scan, but was not in the room when the scan finished. I have not received any warnings, but it would be nice to view the test run. Is there a way? Thanks

You can’t assess old scan data with the home version it isn’t retained, so you would have to run the scan again (one of the limitations of the free home version).

You won’t or shouldn’t receive any warnings the files just couldn’t be scanned, not that they are a problem.
