Getting notified that your passwords are unsafe, doesn’t mean Avast
read your passwords. There are many things that make how you use passwords reveal if they are used
safely or not. Allowing your Browser to store your passwords is just one of many such checks.
Since Avast offers a Password Manager for free, you aren’t obligated to purchase anything.
Using the free PW Mgr, will make the use of passwords safer.
Some would say it is merchandising others would say it is not.
Fact remains that avast is offering the password manager in all their consumer versions of the av for free.
avast isn’t scanning/reading your passwords, it is checking how they are stored.
See it like this:
You write down all your passwords and other information on a piece of paper and put it in a vault.
Avast is not reading what is on the paper, but is checking if the vault is a decent one and if the door of the vault is closed and locked.
Yes, I agree if you say the wording of the message could/should be more clearer.
Instead of something like “You’re passwords are not safe”, I would say “You’re passwords are not stored in a safe way”.
That would in my opinion already make difference and more clear to the users what the scan has checked.
