Hi
Yesterday I checked a file I downloaded and Avast detected a virus which was successfully deleted by me,(please see log attachment).
Since I wanted to verify that Im clean, I have initiated a deep scan that in result showed no infection but.... popped up a message reporting that there are three password protected archivesin the system restore, that Avast is unable to open I would not be bothered if had any password protected archives... I have a reason to believe that these archives are a virus outcome. MI right in my suspicion?
No, probably not.
avast can’t scan files that are password protected, it doesn’t know the password.
There are many legitimate reasons why a file was password protected.
Maybe you could delete old restore points and create a new, clean, one.
I did the system restore old points deletion. I asked the question because Avast did never before pop up a message declaring password protected archives during a deep scan, that is why I thought it is peculiar and an anomaly especially if the archives where password protected. IMHO a computer does not make password protections by itself ,there is a need for human intervention to input the password… which I fail to see how it was effectuated here.
Not exactly.
For instance, Lavasoft Ad-aware and SpyBot store their data in a password-protected ZIP archives (to prevent other similar tools from messing up with them). It’s really nothing to worry about - it’s normal. Other programs do the same.
