Ok, the laptop I am currently using is Toshiba NB305 under a Windows 7 operating system.
Avast was installed successfully and it worked relatively smoothly for several months.
However, tonight, a relative felt the urge to update Avast instead of having automatic updates.
So somehow, after that update, it became impossible to start up the computer in normal mode. I would get a black screen with a cursor.
I’m currently using Safe Mode with Networking, but what is the best way of trying to fix this problem? System restore didn’t seem to solve the problem. Would stopping the antivirus processes at startup help?
May I suggest a “repair”? Control Panel> Uninstall> Double click avast> scroll to and click “repair”> reboot.
The big problem is if you surf the net while in Safe Mode you do not have any avast running.
Safe Mode does not allow avast to load the resident shields. So while in Safe Mode you are without
avast protection. Try the repair and keep us up to date.
Side note…you might want to think twice before allowing anyone else to mess with your avast or any other security software. ???
Thank you for the reply, and I’ll definitely be more prudent with the PC next time.
Ok, my laptop is running in normal mode again, it just needed to rest it seems.
Unfortunately for some odd reason, Avast does not appear on the Control Panel, and indeed it needs a repair. How do I make it appear on the control panel so that I can repair it?
