PC crashes during Avast Boot Scan (startup repair)

I’ve been having an issue with Avast boot scan for a couple weeks now. Let’s put the technical info up first

Windows 7 Home Premium (x64)
Avast Internet Security
Program Version: 7.0.1473
Definition Version: 121025-2

So, I can do a Full Scan with Avast, no problems there. I also use Malwarebytes as a scanning tool as well. Both scans come up clean, and finish without incident.

However, I do a boot scan from time to time as well, and for the past couple weeks I haven’t been able to complete one. What happens is that after about 2-3min of boot scanning (which starts up without incident) the scan crashes back to startup, and the PC is unable to load the OS. The PC attempts to perform startup repair to fix the issue but no issue is repaired. I suspect there’s no real problem with the drive, just the nature of the crash because I can abort the startup repair and boot normally without issue.

There are no other symptoms to speak of. The PC runs fine temperature-wise, no indication of infection (clean scans with Avast full scan and MBAM), and no stability issues during day-to-day operation (gaming, web browsing, etc.).

I’m at a bit of a loss as to what’s going on. Any help would be appreciated.

Update: I managed to get the scan to run for about 15-20min on the last go. However, it crashed again with the same result.

Wow, not a single reply?

Am I missing some key information here? Or is the description of the issue too general? I find it hard to believe that no one here has anything to suggest.

Hi!
Sorry that you have yet received no response.
Did you post this problem to the Avast Tech Service Team yet?
You should do that. They will issue you a ticket number and maybe suggest a fix.

Good luck. I’ll be following this thread hoping that you will post back with some outcome.
