My pc freezes on bootup and then Avast breaks, meaning that no features of Avast function correctly, and I get “broken package” errors when trying to repair or uninstall Avast. I was not even able to uninstall Avast using REVO, apparently since the Avast uninstaller was not working.
I can do a temporary fix with a restore point, but then the same thing happens again on next bootup.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
p.s. Do you think installing the new Avast beta (when Avast is working due to restore point) would fix this issue? Thank you!

Hello, sorry for the incredibly long delay, been super busy. In looking at your original steps, a question came up:
Is it essential to reboot to safe mode? I have never used safe mode before and am a bit nervous about dealing with it. Can I uninstall Avast and run aswClear without booting to safe mode?
No…Avast recommends (look at the directions on the link) that you uninstall in Safe Mode. It will be fine. If you had other products or versions of Avast on this machine (example v. 4, 5, etc.), then you want to use the Avast Uninstaller Tool for each version and reboot into Safe Mode for each one.
BTW, we never recommend that you uninstall using anything other than the vendor’s uninstaller tool. In other words, don’t use Revo to uninstall Avast. Revo is a great product, but not for security software.
The problem stopped happening, and as it turns out the computer will be wiped around the end of the month since I am getting a new motherboard. So, I decided to let it all be for now. But I have saved the instructions in case the problem comes up again. Thank you!
