Hi,
My Windows 7 desktop pc got into a very peculiar state today. Shortly after an Avast alarm for the JS:Agent-BDN [Trj], I believe it reset. Now on booting, it either displays a BSOD blue screen with stop error 0x000000FC or offers the choice of System Repair (which fails with BugCheck code 0x490, system files integrity check or repair) or standard Windows startup (which I have not dared to try).
I can’t get the option of starting Windows in safe mode in order to run my Avast viruschecker. I tried the Windows installation DVD but it can’t find a system restore point for a repair. In the BIOS the SSD boot drive is not on the list of boot drives anymore; the first is now the D: hard disk. Trying to set the SSD as the boot drive just gets me back to the system repair screen.
I can get to the command prompt, which shows that my physical 60GB SSD C: drive now seems to have been relabeled G: . The C: letter now points to some sort of virtual drive named “System reserved” of 99.9 MB. In addition an X: drive letter has appeared called “Boot” with a size of 33.6 MB. Can’t find the C:\user.. Documents folder either.
I found the Avast program file directory but it refused to start the avastui.exe from the command prompt, with an error something like “system image not available…” (?). On top of everything I got a CPU overheating alarm while trying to find a way forward.
As you may imagine, I’d be grateful for help in identifying and getting rid of whatever this problem is. Thanks in advance!
