PC infected wi-fi and control panel not working

I had the same problem as explained in this topic: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=149980.0 ; However, besides my wi-fi and the control panel are not working. I made the same initial procedures explained in the topic. The logs are attached. Can someone help me?

Please use OTL and attach that log as well.

Hi larilucena,

No need for OTL when you already started FRST scan. Let’s start with MBAR

Please download Malwarebytes AntiRootkit (MBAR) and save it to your desktop.
For full instructions how MBAR works, read this article

> Doubleclick on the MBAR file (
http://www.mcshield.net/personal/magna86/Images/mbar.png
) and allow it to run.
• Click OK on the next screen, to allow the package to extract the contents of the file to its own folder named mbar.
mbar.exe will launch automatically. On some systems, this may take a few extra seconds. Please be patient and wait for the program to open.
• After reading the Introduction, click Next if you agree.

• On the Update Database screen, click on the Update button. Once you see ‘Success: Database was successfully updated’ click on Next
• Under Scan Targets ensure all boxes are ticked. Then click the Scan button.

Notice: with some infections, you may see two messages boxes:

 • ‘Could not load protection driver’. Click ‘OK’.
 • ‘Could not load DDA driver’. Click ‘Yes’ to this message, to allow the driver to load after a restart. Allow the computer to restart. Continue with the rest of these instructions.

>> If malware is not detected, click the Exit button to close the program and post the mbar-log-year-month-day.txt and system-log.txt reports.

>> If an infection/s are found ensure Create Restore Point are ticked. Then select the "Cleanup! button to remove threats.
• The clean up procedure will be scheduled for process, pop-up will be shown.
Select the Yes button and the system should re-boot to complete the cleaning process.

>> Notice: only if an RootKit are detected, ensure to run fixdamage.exe tool located in mbar folder, \Plugins\fixdamage.exe

 • Run fixdamage.exe, at the black window to continue type Y (alias for Yes). Wait few seconds for execution …
 • When you see “press any key to exit” fix is completed, press any key to close the window. Reboot the system.

> The following reports will be created in mbar folder:

 1. mbar-log-year-month-day (hour-minute-second).txt
 2. system-log.txt

Please post both logs in your next reply.

My guess is your infection. Magna will help you from here on out

Did the procedure. 1 malware was detected, however, the problem continues, I can not access the control panel and wi-fi
Logs attached

larilucena, have you been run fixdamage.exe as instructed?

No. I have not seen any rootkit detected. However, I may have mistaken me. I’ll run fixdamage, right?

Aye. No rootkit detected but fixdamage.exe contains a good number of autofixes which may help resolve the problem(s).

Run fixdamage and then restart widnows. Tell me when you do that.

It worked. My wi-fi and control panel are back. However, notifications have changed:

Ok larilucena, we have multiple problems here and multiple solutions.

First, you are running outdated Windows 8.
Windows 8 Single Language (X64) OS Language: Portuguese Brazilian
Internet Explorer Version 10

The current version is Windows 8.1 Update (chain of updates: Windows 8 >> Windows 8.1 >> Windows 8.1 Update) and IE11 (desktop and metro) browser.
The upgrade is free and it can be reached using Windows Store app, or applying Windows Update service (WUP). This also might solved a lot of problems because it will be done some form of light reinstallation. Do not worry, all your personal setings of programs, files …etc shall be saved. You lost nothing.

Then we can also preform refresh or reinstall using Modern UI settins … but we’ll talk abaut that later if there is need for that operations.

Before you go for upgrading your system which is mandatory (and free), I would like you to preform some fixes. This time we will use FRST tool to do that…
FRST shall also target the detected malware (Win32:Malware-gen) in case avast didn’t. The (FileRepMalware) detection is some kind of FP, do not pay attention to that yet…

First from Control Panel access to Programs and Features. From there uninstall Update for PriceMeter.

Then …

1. Open notepad and copy/paste the text present inside the code box below.
To do this highlight the contents of the box and right click on it. Paste this into the open notepad.

Reboot:
End

2. Save notepad as fixlist.txt to your Desktop.
NOTE: => It’s important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

3. Run FRST/FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needed a restart please make sure you let the system to restart normally and let the tool completes its run after restart.

The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
Note: If the tool warned you about the outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Done. Thank you in advance for your patience. Let’s keep going. I think we’re getting close to a complete solution.

Hi larilucena,

This now looks much better. Now it is time for you to preform upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and then to 8.1 Update.

Start Windows Store and preform upgrade from there … or start Windows Update and preform update from there … there will be several upgrade offers, accept all of them.

Install Windows 8.1 Update and when you done with all that updates and upgrades, then run again FRST tool and post me fresh FRST.txt and Additional.txt logreprot.

Btw, your USB devices are infected. Malware should be neutralized from the system so, remain malware is located on your USB devices. You have installed MCShield, keep it active all the time and you shall be protected from them.

Thanks, magna86. ;D You are the boss. Everything is fine now. Logs attached. Anything else?

Ah … how nice this looks now.
Windows 8.1 Single Language (Update 1) (X64) OS Language: Portuguese Brazilian
Internet Explorer Version 11

As you may notice, 8.1 has a few changes that make sistem more userfrendly, faster, secured, beautifuly …etc
You may “ask” google or bing search or youtube to see the changes.

Posted logs are clean. There is no sign of malware activities. Tell me, how is computer behavior now?
If all is well, it is time to remove malware diagnostic/removal tools…

The computer is working perfectly, even better than before infection. The upgrade was essential. 8.1 is great!

Told you so. ;D

The following will implement some post-cleanup procedures:

=> Please download DelFix by Xplode to your Desktop.

Run the tool and check the following boxes below;

Remove disinfection tools

http://www.mcshield.net/personal/magna86/Images/checkmark.png
Create registry backup

http://www.mcshield.net/personal/magna86/Images/checkmark.png
Purge System Restore
Click Run button and wait a few seconds for the programme completes his work.
At this point all the tools we used here should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:DelFix.txt)

The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

Keep Malwarebytes and MCShield as additional protections besides current AV setup.

Install Unchecky program. Watch the video and you’ll see that he will attempt to protect you by uncecking the PUP offers in legit installation.

That’s all …keep safe.
