PC makers walk fine line with 'crapware'

Apple just jumped on this issue with a new TV commercial. Funny!

You can watch the “stuffed” ad here:

And, in all fairness, Bill Gates’ response to the Apple Ads here:

I think the “stuffed” thing it’s kind of unfair. PC makers, not Microsoft, are the ones stuffing PC with “crapware”. Look HP for example; they installed Wild Tangent on thousands of new PCs. Besides, what if users actually want to buy their PCs bloated with all that stuff? At least PC users can decide that, Apple users can’t. Even worse, iPhone users won’t be able to install any “crapware” or anything at all. Steve Jobs decided for them.

Actually it has not been said if developers can make apps for the iPhone. if they are allowed to im sure they will get a SDK at the developer conference in June

As for the ad, incredible! I never thought about using the bloatware aspect when doing my sales pitch ;D  8)

A Walt Mossberg column discussing PC Decrapifier, a tool to wipe all the junk off a new computer, and other strategies for getting rid of trial ware:
