We're collecting data for a forthcoming feature in PC Pro magazine. If you'd like to get involved, please take a moment to complete the survey below and let us know which software you use. Thanks for taking part.

Done  Avast! is at the top at the moment.

Thanks, Tech. Interesting that 1.9% choose not to run security software. ???

I know some that choose this option mainly because they are on a nix based OS, or some on Apple iOS, some who think they are invincible.

But there are ways to reduce your risk, and have a robust backup and recovery strategy, if you ever did get hit.

I have 2 computers at our Senior Center that reset to a safe starting point each time they are rebooted.
They don’t need any help or additional overhead from another program.

That is certainly proactive way to start clean - though this isn’t something I’m that familiar with, e.g. if the software to do that can be circumvented.

Not likely.

Not prudent. I certainly do run antivirus on my Linux Mint system.

Yeah, but you could still become infected with say a banker trojan during a session, and have your bank account/credit card cleaned out before logging off. Without security software, you won’t even know you’re infected until it is way too late.

You are correct. Banking and Shopping isn’t allowed on these computers.
Any one breaking that rule, does so at their own expense.

I see. I guess I misunderstood your post as Deep Freeze being a replacement for security software.

They don't need any help or additional overhead from another program.

Deep Freeze Ensures each user a clean system when they start their session and the ability to erase all of their information
simply by rebooting the system after they finish using the computer.
Their website can give you more information if you’re interested. (It is not a free program.)

Thanks anyway, but I’ll stick with disk imaging and security software.

So will I. This certainly isn’t meant to be used by everyone or everywhere.
