PC to TV connection

Hi! I bought a SONY KDL-32V5500K LCD TV. Now I want to connect it to my PC so that I can surf the web on the big screen. I bought a VGA cable and a RCA cable and connected it alltogether. I can get the video (but I have a constant error on the display: “Unsupported signal, adjust your PC output!”) and I can’t make the audio work. So, I have that error all the time written on the TV and no audio at all. Can anyone help me please?

If you have HDMI capability, buy that cable. Experiment by starting computer first, then TV or vice versa.

Brand and model of you PC would be helpfull. If the video card is not the same as the one that came with your computer please mention the name and model of your curent video card.

I don’t have a HDMI capability on my PC. I experimented a lot and nothing works right…

AMD 3GHz, 1,5GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 7600. But I’m not writing from that PC now so I don’t know the exact details. And what do you think is wrong with the sound?

If your graphics card/chip has a DVI output it may be possible to buy a DVI to HDMI connector that would allow for HDMI connection.

However, I really can’t see the worth in what you are trying to do as most 32" LCD TVs are only HD Ready 720P (resolution 1366x768 pixels) as opposed to 1080P (resolution 1920x1080 pixels).

If your TV is only HD Ready 720p you would actually be worse off than a standard small monitor as everything would just be very large size, but poor detail and no increase in screen real estate.

If capable of Full HD 1080p then it would be more a reasonable resolution, but the refresh rate of the TV might not be as fast or as clear as a PC Monitor. So I wouldn’t think it very good for gaming if that is what you are considering it for.

See http://www.cnet.com/hdtv-resolution/ for more general information.

I have a 26" LCD Monitor which gives a resolution of 1920 x 1200 which is a much better resolution than a HD Ready TV.

I thank you all for help, I figured it all out today and have video and audio working with my PC to TV connection (had to buy a new audio cable and change the refresh rate).

Now I would like to have some automation when I connect my PC to TV, so I need a little program which would change the screen resolution from 1024x768 to 1360x768 and the refresh frequency from 85Hz to 60Hz and vice versa when I want to use the PC monitor again.

Do you know for any program of that kind? Or is it possible to do this even in a batch file?

Thank you very much!

I haven’t heard of any such software, have you not tried your friend google ?

That is where monitors surpass TVs as they often have a button on them to automatically set the size/resolution.

However, this is a graphics card issue as they are normally able to detect the native resolution of monitors (not so much for TVs) and select the best match. It is considered better to have a faster refresh rate if supported by the graphics card (or TV) for the resolution, rather than having a slower refresh rate.

I doubt a simple batch file would do it as you would be having to code for changing the GUI settings of the graphics card.

Changing the resolution should only be a few clicks away, so even if you were able to code a batch file to do this, I would say that the effort is outweighed the relative simplicity of changing the resolution manually.

I found the right software - Resolution Changer SX2: http://www.stintercorp.com/rc.php

Thank you for help!

You’re welcome, amazing what you can find on the internet, I never thought there would be much call for that type of thing.
