pcandis5.sys

after installing a new version, Avast prompted me to remove a rootlit called pcandi5.sys
after that and scanning for viruses my computer can no longer access my wifi network after restarting
did avast remove any legitimate system configuration, how can I solve the problem ?
TIA

Netgear router?

What did you do with the file?

no idea, avast then prompted to scan the whole system and found no other problem
as it was restartin after upgrading to version 4.8 it didn’t write an entry in journals
I am left with no information whatever
thanks for any help you can provide

I found this, it’s French, but the online translator leaves a lot to be desired. It appears to be related to netgear wireless.

Check the chest for the file.

Lots of ggogle hits for

PCANDIS5 NDIS Protocol Driver

oldman
It was misprint in the original post, valid driver name is pcandis5.sys. There is a lot of references in Google on this PCAUSA production (Rawether). Probably it can be used as Riskware.

we’ll fix that… Vlk will take care

I finally managed to sort this out:
pcandis5.sys is a legitimate file installed by the Sagem 80211G_WL5061S_Adapter which I use with my laptop
I reinstalled the software after downloading it from the Sagem site
During install, Avast did not react to the pcandis5.sys file this time

I suppose it was a false positive in the first place, only it was a pity Avast didn’t save or quarantine the confiuration and I had to figure out a solution .

It was nice to receive messages of support from this forum which shows Avast is at least a much friendlier product that many others I tried

Keep up the good work
All the best

Thanks for posting back. The file seems to be related to many different adapters.
