PDa anti virus software - just a money grab?

Hi All;

Just a thought. Since as far as I can find there are no documented cases of viruses on the Pocket PC why is avast selling anti-virus software for it? In looking around it seems that avast is the only company charging money for anti virus software for the pocket pc.

First, let me disagree that avast is the only one. Trend Micro, Kaspersky and Symantec (maybe others) do the same thing and their prices are similar.

But to answer your question: what you’re buying is a subscription. The fact that now there’re very few viruses for the PDA platform doesn’t mean that tomorrow the situation will be the same. Having an (updatable) antivirus program installed on the device, can give you better sleep - a guarantee (well, maybe a somewhat strong word) that whenever something new appears, your device will be protected…

I’d say AV business is pretty similar to the insurance business…

Thanks
Vlk

Correct. You may buy AV software and never get a virus but it nice to know its there protecting you.

Makes sense;

Better to be protected just in case.

Sorry about the attitude, had a rough day.
I currently have avast protecting 20 computers at work (Pro version 4) and 3 at home (Home version 4) and not a single virus has gotten through, none of the other AV programs have ever been able to do that.

AVAST ROCKS.

Does Home edition work on PDAs? Just curious.

No, you must buy the PDA version

You can trial it for 2 months free though… :slight_smile:

Mayakovski, congratulations for your choice on avast Pro version. I would say it’s a smart one 8)

I’m waiting for Avast to come out with anti virus protection for my graphing calculator. :wink:
