pdfcracker.exe

Hi there,

I work at a firm where a lot of PDF files pass through our hands. Clients are not very good at remembering to remove passwords, so certain of our users have installed a tool called “PDF Password Cracker” or “pdfcracker.exe”.

The software appears to be a shareware app. However, when I tired to unzip the file on my machine, avast! immediately warned me that the software contains malware. This worries me, as users have already installed the software and that may mean the security of our network is compromised.

How does avast! make this determination? CNET and Softpedia host this software and seem to declare it to be “verified malware free”. If this is a false positive, it would make my day a lot less stressful.

Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

No avast detection here ?
