Pearson TestNav Error with Avast Security Installed

Recently we install Pearson TestNav application on MacBook and we encounter error when we start Test.

Uninstall Avast Security will allow the test to run without error.

Test provided by TestNav - App Check passed.

Has anyone able to run WIDA Test under TestNav on a MacBook with Avast Security installed ?

Can you post a screenshot of the error. Was it an Avast alert popup, if so, expand the “Show Details” part.

Note. I am not an Avast Team member, just another user, but not a Mac user.

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
Having no idea what the Pearson TestNav application does I had to google it.

what is Pearson TestNav application

The AI returns a good explanation and based on this, the security side of this application I would imaging there is a conflict between its security and Avast trying to protect your system could well be coming into conflict.

As rocksteady, is this an Avast alert or issues I mentioned above, you could try adding an exception for the sites URL in your Avast Installation ?

As you don’t mention what your Avast program is ?
Plus you have posted the Windows section of the forum and not Avast for Mac. I can’t really say where this Exceptions function would be found.

I didn’t realise I was posting on the Windows section, my apology.

I will provide some background on my case and close this discussion.

TestNav is a tool we used for English Proficiency Assessment for the international school I was working, which we were using WIDA application until it was sunset and we were told to use TestNav application supported by this company called Pearson’s Clinical Assessment group.

We were using the free version of Avast Free antivirus for Mac.

There is no error message from Avast, the TestNav application simply throws a error code at different stages when loading the Test.

When we uninstall Avast Free Antivirus, the Test will load successfully.

We input various exception URLs provided by Pearson’s Support in Avast Core Shields and the testing code were able to continue loading until another error surface.

We provided Logs to the Pearson support various time and in the latest conversation from them is to advise us to seek support from Avast.

That is all at this point of time.

Thank You rocksteady and DavidR for the response, much appreciated.

You’re welcome.
Unfortunately neither rocksteady or I are familiar with the Avast For MAC interface.

But if you have found it see this example image of an exception I have set in the Windows version of Avast, that may help (or not).

The other issue is what type of connection is being used by Pearson’s Site. In the Avast Web Guard/Shield (no idea what the name is for the mac variant of Avast), there is http/https quic/http3 and also dns/doh so it is essential that your Exception is properly formatted the use of wildcards * (multiple characters) and I think ? (single character).

Short of that you could try temporarily disabling the Web Shield/Guard whatever it may be called in the Avast for Mac variant for the visit to Pearson’s site. But ensure you enable it after you are done as you would be unprotected for all other browsing.
