I have been having trouble with the Pelikan browser hijacker trying to take over my IE when I double left click on the IE icon.
But when I right click on the IE icon and single left click on an icon on the list (like Google). It goes right to Google.
Only when I double left click on the IE icon, then the Pelikan browser hijacker tries to take over.
Of course I always do “ctl alt delete” and go to the task manager to stop the program…so that Pelikan can’t take my IE any more then it has.
It use to be worse, but I used 3 or 4 of the well respected malware anti virus programs…and a couple of them have removed some Pelikan files. But I still must have something left on my computer since only when I doulble left click on IE then Pelikan tries to take over.
It use to take over Chrome, but my malware programs stopped Pelikan from causing any more problems with Chrome.
I have tried Bit Defender, Hitman Pro, Avast, and Malware Bytes. But I still have this crazy Pelikan causing a minor problem with my IE.
I have already removed any references to Pelikan from Programs and Features.
I hope I got the information you need.
I apologize for taking so long to get this information to you. I needed to learn how to do a Restore Point in case something went wrong when I was running Adwcleaner. I also had to learn how to use my Acronis backup software. I figured I had better have Restore Points and complete image backups just to be safe.
I thank you for your help. I’m hoping to get rid of all the Pelikan software. It’s a real pain.
Adwcleanen isn’t needed for now. In my honest opinion, giving the user to scan with Adwcleaner and MalwareBytes or with any other tool before the expert reviews diagnostic reports first, could sometimes be a bad idea because sometimes removing some malware component may cause computer to lose internet, stability or even to become unbootable.
Bob, you did not run FRST from Administrator account, so you’ll need to scan again:
I was looking over AdwCleaner files. When doing so I saw 2 or 3 files having to do with IE, and a couple with Chrome.
I had a whole bunch of other files also, but I didn’t know what they were for.
So my curiosity go the better of me, and I unchecked all the files that I had no idea what they went to, except the few for IE and Chrome. And I clicked on Clean.
Low and behold, I got rid of the Palikan problem.
It seems I have a whole bunch of other files that shouldn’t be there either. But I did not click on Clean for them. I wanted to want to see what you tell me to do with them.
So I hope it was ok for me to delete the few files for IE and Chrome. It seemed to get rid of Palikan…yippee.
I still need your help though regarding all the other files that AdwCleaner displayed.
I heard AdwCleaner sometimes gives false positives. So I was worried I would be removing files that I should’t if I removed everything. I thought that the other files might be false positives, since names were listed of programs that I use?
