Sorry for the wordy title but on the Scan options for manual scans, I have noticed that by default the “Perform automatic actions during this scan” is unchecked, but the Recommended action “Fix Automatically” is.
So, i’m curious what that means? Does that mean that action selected will be performed or not?
Nothing, When the option isn’t checked it isn’t active so, Nothing the reverse of what it says in the tin, “Perform automatic actions during this scan”.
You would need to select the option either when the detection is made or upon completion of the scan.
You are completely forgetting about the on-access scanners, the web and file system shields, etc.
It would have first to get past them first and if it was activated from within the system, file and behaviour shields.
So by “do nothing”, does it then not even detect the malware? Does it detect it and just let you know “hey we found malware?” Would it tell you where? Does it give you the options at the end of what to do with it?
Either way, it seems really misleading, and potentially a huge oversight, by Avast to set it that way as the default setting if it doesn’t do anything.
I’m not forgetting about them at all, and I understand you’re comfortable only using those shields. But I’ve said it again: Avast offers manual scans. I like running manual scans on a somewhat regular basis. No shield is perfect, so I’m not just going to rely solely on the real-time shields. If the real time shields were good enough, Avast wouldn’t bother equipping their AV with several different types of manual scans.
You keep putting out that same line any time someone has a question or concern about the manual scans, and it’s not helpful in the slightest. It doesn’t answer the questions I or anyone else might have, and honestly, it comes off as more than a little bit condescending.
I sincerely mean this as nicely and respectfully as possible: Please stop saying this every time there’s a topic about a manual scan. I’m happy that you’re satisfied just using the active shields. I am not, and a lot of other people apparently aren’t either.
If this checkbox is not checked, you’ll get a summary of results at the end of the scan (well, you get that in any case) - and you’ll be able to select and apply the removal action from there.
