Performing Inpage Operation

Hi, I tried to uninstall the avast from my computer because it was not working, and tried to install again. But unfortunately the reinstallation doesnt worked well and now my computer is which a directory of avast but it is not listed in the add/remove programs. Then I tried to remove it manually, deleting the files from avast, but i noticied that the file copyx64.exe could not be removed because it was performing inpage operation. what i want? i want to know how i can delete this file from my computer. i tried to find any reference of it in window registry but i haven’t found any. All references of avast in the windows registry was erased.

Any ideas?
Thanks for any suggestion

Hi,

try the avast! uninstall utility that you can find at http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_uninstall_util.html

so long

Who gave this strange error (“Error performing inpage operation”, right?) ?
What OS do you have?

I have windows 2000 profissional.

And what application gave the mentioned error?

This error appear when i try to delete the file copyx64.exe.
What happen was: my home avast! was working well, but then i tried to update my virus definition and the update file was in my memory key (usb). i think something goes wrong and the avast could not be updated and then the file copyx64.exe is still trying to receive the updates. Even after may restarts of Windows, even in Safe Mode, this file continue been protected by Windows. i can’t reinstall the avast because this file copyx64.exe is still in use (performing inpage operation).

Thanks
Heber

Make sure the file is not in use. Check device manager and close the process that is using it.
Make sure you are logged in as administrator and take ownership of the file.
That way you should be able to delete it.

Since I don’t know that file, I can’t tell if it is safe to delete at this stage or not.

It’s really weird. copyx64.exe certainly doesn’t receive anything - it’s just a very simple file whose only purpose is to copy a few files somewhere on your disk.

Can you post a screenshot of the problem, please?
Also, try to run scandisk on your drive… does it report any problems?

This file “copyx64.exe” is inside avast directory.
I’m logged with administrator rights but i still doen’t know which process i need to kill. i tried to stop every process that i don’t recognize but some of them couldn’t be stoped.

i’m thinking in leave this file, and try to reinstall avast in other directory if i can’t delete it. My unique doubt is if the file copyx64.exe will still be using resources of windows, because in firsts restarts of windows, the Windows was very slow, but now, seems to be in normal speed.

Is better to reinstall windows, or this is not necessary?

In night I’ll will post the error message (screenshot), my problematic pc is in my home.

The file copyx64.exe really shouldn’t “run” for any longer that a fraction of a second - so it cannot use windows recources. Actually, the file is there only to help with installation on Win64 - it really cannot run on your computer unless you have a 64bit CPU and OS.

The error message is very strange as well… could be a consequence of a filesystem corruption, or something like that - it’s really hard to say.

Hi Igor, yes it is a consequence of filesystem corruption. I noticied now that is not just avast that is with problems. I tried to install other programs and some problems ocurred, and also a can’t see some folder of my documents.

Thanks all for the assistance
Heber

I would say, backup the data.
Run the drive diagnostic util from the manufacturer.
If it shows that the drive is ok, format a do a clean installation of everything.
