perplexed. Is this a false alarm?

Hello Everyone.

Before I begin, let me say that yes, I have had Norton AV on my computer, and that yes, I have uninstalled it only via the “remove programs” option. I understand from frequenting this forum that Norton AV is harder to remove than simply just extricating it from the “remove programs” option, but as I am not overly computer-savvy and as any remnants of it have not caused me problems, I have left those remnants as they are.

Anyway, every couple of months I run an online virus check just to be doubly sure my computer is clean.

The other day BitDefender online scan found this:

C:\APPS\NORTONAV\SUPPORT\NAVTOOLS\REPAIR\KILL_CIH.EXE suspect: Win95.FileInfector

I then ran RAV antivirus online and symantec online and of course avast! but they all say the system is clean, so I can only assume this is a false detection from bitdefender?

What do you think?

Thanks for reading, if you made it to here. Cheers!

Yes its indeed a false positive. KILL_CIH.exe is a repair tool for CIH aka Chernobyl virus. Also path points to the Symantec folder…

Hi,

Yes I have just downloaded the file and run it through bitdefender. It is a false positive. I have sent the file to them so they can correct the false alarm.

Cheers
