Every time I run CCleaner now, I get “Invalid file reference” for c:\program files\alwil software\avast5\mg\vbox\avastvboxsvc.exe
with registry key HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AvastVBoxSVC
Does any one know what this means, why I’m getting it, and what can be done about it?
This appears to be a reference to the avast NG - Virtual Machine Protection (or something close to that name). The problem being as I (an avast user) see it is avast when updating or installing will effectively get ready to install the NG module, but subsequent checks on system specification to see if it meets the requirements of NG. If not then presumably it doesn’t install it.
I haven’t got a clue what CCleaner means by an “Invalid file reference.”
What avast version do you have installed ?
The reason I ask is that you have a very old avast file structure c:\program filesalwil softwareavast5. That was used up until several years ago when it became C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast.
I wouldn’t have thought so, I have never experienced a problem in running CCleaner, presumably this is only in the analysis phase so no attempt being made to remove the registry entry (or file).
Wouldn’t it be nice if they used the same conventions as other cleaners file doesn’t exist, as Invalid file reference could mean more than one thing.
