Phishing Message or Avast Renewal?

I received a email notice that my credit card information needs to be updated (now expired) before my auto renewal date of August 21, 2015. Trouble is my renewal date is in September, and the link embedded in the email goes to “mandrillapp.com/track/click/”…some more stuff… and a long, long line of letters and numbers, off the screen. They also gave me a password to use on this site.

This all seems very suspicious, as I can’t imagine a virus site like Avast would require clicking on a link like this. I can’t find any way on the Avast site to update my information, nor can I find any way to easily get help. There was a support line number, and I got a hold of a woman who couldn’t help me because I must have purchased my Avast “somewhere else.” What? (I have upgraded from free).

Any insight? TIA.

Suspicious. …

Contact your credit card company

I have received an almost identical email to this but the renewal date is actually quite close (4 weeks) but the suspicious thing that alerted me is they have given me a temporary password to “log on” which cannot be right but it seems virtually impossible to clarify this with Avast through a simple email exchange. Any thoughts please? Thanks

Absolutely contact Avast as has been suggested.
