Phishing Question

Hello,

Just joined the forum but have been using Avast for a number of years now. Infact, I help a number of people with their computer issues and always insist they have Avast installed and immediately get rid of their Norton’s and McAfee preinstalls.

This Phishing issue is from one of the people I help out. He reports that:

“Avast has been detecting something every time I go onto my ‘Log In’ page on ‘Halifax Online Banking’. When I click ‘Sign In’ a warning comes up from Avast stating the following ‘PHISH/Halifax.K.1’ I choose to remove it, however it further detects it again.”

This message only comes up on one site, all others work perfectly fine. I’ve had him run scans (Avast & Malwarebytes) with no obvious problems detected.

What confuses me most though is whether this file is actually a threat or indeed a false positive.

Any comments would be most welcomed.

Thanx,
Lunsfordc

on the pop up, ther should be a Object…stating what is detected as PISH…
anyway…it sounds like he may enter a fake bank site?

best would be if you could attach a screen shot of the avast warning here

I have a Halifax account and using Firefox 12 I used the hXXp://wXw.halifax.co.uk/ page to start with and was able to click the Sign In button (top right of page) and that took me to the secure log-in page with no alerts.

What browser are you using ?
