phishing

I have just updated Firefox to 2.0.0.19.

It mentions that phishing will no longer be protected, and I wondered if the web scanner in Avast 4.8.1296 actually watches out for this, or not for 98 S.E

I think WebShield is trying to catch whatever it can about phishing, in whatever Windows flavor

Cheers Tech.

I wish someone would just bring me a brand new computer all up and running with all the stuff that I use and need on it, that would be fantastic.

You see the reason I am sticking with this older machine is that it took me absolutely ages to get it like I have it right now, and I see many people having issues with programs etc and this admin rights thing really puts me off on Vista.

And new computers these days come with pre loaded AV and IP connection software, I hate all that, lol

I must admit this PC which I bought in 2001 has lasted the pace, I mean the motherboard etc, I would recommend ASUS boards.

It’s not that I don’t want to buy a new computer, it’s just that I remember all the hassle I had when I got my first one, having said that I know more than I did at that time.

;)Amen to what u posted Nightshade !!

Elucidate please.

Well, You might want to read my system profile. ;D

I thought Avast doesn’t protect you from phishing ???

Since phishing tends toward social engineering rather than the delivery of viruses or malware I would suspect it is rather outside the realm of avast’s Webshield.

Some is caught by Webshield. Others by NetShield… But it’s better a second protection layer in your browser…

@nightshade and hines232; here’s a link to some Anti-Phishing Add-ons for Firefox that should work for V2.0.0.19: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search?q=phishing

When I next start Firefox, I will be updating to 2.0.0.19 myself…

WOT (Web of Trust) is highly touted here in the forum and from what I read “FirePhish” is also a good one…

ProgrammerGuy,

Many thanks my friend, so many to choose from.

Would anyone care to know if those add ons do actually work for FF V 2.0.0.19, would like to know before I install it.

Mind you I would have thought it would not let you install it if it wasn’t compatible, not sure though.

Some is caught by Webshield. Others by NetShield

Howver, Network Shield (which would I suspect be more effective than Webshield for anti-phishing) is not available to Win9x system users like nightshade.

And since those users cannot install Firefox versions higher than version 2

But it’s better a second protection layer in your browser…
is sound advice.

Glad I could be of help ‘nightshade’…

Here’s the link directly to the WOT add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3456

From what I see, it’s compatible for every known version of FF that could be used, including some that are still in testing…

I’ve also got the ‘scandoo’ plug-in installed and from what I’ve been told the only problem I may have with having it and WOT is that I might see a little slowdown and that there could be conflicts between the two… No big deal!

Sorry… you’re right. OS tricks ;D
