I have not been able to activate Pirate Talk on Avast 6 languages , it does appear to download the file but its still the American lady telling me my virus database has been updated, has any other Pirates out there uncounted the same problem ?, I realize its early days yet and Avast 6 is brand new, lets hope we get shipshape soon.
Hi Mick, welcome to the forum
Just tested the pirate sounds download here and it works as it should. (WIn7 64)
What are you doing when you download it?
In FireFox, I have the option to Open with “aswChLic Component” or download.
If you download it, you can double click the file and avast will install the sounds.
Also, could you post some specs of your system, avast etc…
Scott
Mick, how exactly did you try to activate the Pirate talk? From within the program settings?
Are you trying to download from the GUI or website?
Goto : http://www.avast.com/audio
Download(see pic) the pirate sounds and open with avast. It will automatically ask if you double click the file.
Thank you all for the prompt information, I will try to answer all your your questions in one go.
I always installed Pirate Talk ( 5 onwards ) by opening Avast and going onto MAINTAINANCE and from there to SETTINGS then LANGUAGES, in LANGUAGES its already set to ENGLISH, and click INSTALL ADDITIONAL LANGUAGES, from there select Pirate Talk from the drop down menu and OK.
That has always worked before Avast 6 so naturally I tried this again, however I have learned something new from this forum about downloading the language separately and hopefully fingers crossed when I get the update tomorrow I will see if it works.
I will attach my specs tomorrow with the results.
Thanks again
Mick G
There’s no separate download of the language pack - only the sound pack.
So, you’re saying that after you checked the “Pirate talk” language in the “Install additional languages” window, something happened… but the “Pirate talk” didn’t appear in the combo in the previous window?
I installed as I had done before, checked Pirate Talk from additional languages and usually on the previous installs (before 6) a download box appeared and downloaded, clicked finish and that was it, this time the shortest download and updated successfully message but no Pirate Talk…I take your point, I have downloaded only the sound pack now so hopefully it will have installed.
Thanks Mick G
After checking the checkbox in the “Install additional languages” window and after the download is done, it’s necessary to actually switch to that language in the previous window (i.e. in Settings / Languages).
Thank you guys all of you, I have Pirate Talk back, its just shows the power of the internet when in such a short time I can get good advice to get put back on the right track, it was the settings as in the simple changing from English in the drop down box To Pirate Talk…makes you feel a bit of a fool when the solution is just a click away !!!
