Hello and welcome to the forum!

 • Which OS? (32/64 Bit - which SP)
 • Which avast-version? (Free, Pro, Internet Security)
 • Which program version (7.0.1474 is the latest)?

Thanks for your reply

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AVs.

http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

 1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
 2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
 3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
 4. Reboot.

Thanks for your reply, but I must first uninstall NOD32?

Yes.

Continuing the problem.
I’ve completed the steps, but in the process of installing avast, displays the error message indicated.
Not solution

Did you download/use the installer from the provided link…??

I had similar issue on Japanese forum before, which had resolved by reinstalling both game software (which shows error) and avast to another place.

Try to install avast to another path, something like "C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\reinstall".

Yes, of course

This option not solved problem to me.
When install in new directory, during installation see same error

Solution in Spanisch:

Suerte !!

I am also struggling with this problem. I have only used Avast on this machine and have updated as prompted for new versions by the program.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit version, using Avast Free version 8.0.1497.

I have performed the standard recommendations several times, used aswclear in safe mode etc., no success, still getting the annoying popup every time I start the laptop up.

I cannot find any traces of older Avast versions anywhere on the computer. What now ?

4 days and 50 views later no response ? Is this the best support Avast can offer ?

Hello and welcome to the Forum!

You could try a clean install with the new version 2014: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=136785.0

DJBone

Just tried it before even seeing your response. Still got the same message during setup and also during boot-up (five popups), which took considerably longer than usual. Web browser has now slowed to a near-freeze, Skype gets so bogged down that voice breaks up and cannot hang up or close it.

Tries to run chkdsk, computer justs shuts off at around 10-15%. Windows startup repair also cannot complete, machine just shuts off. Can still start Windows normally, but get the above described behaviour.

Have you removed all other antivirus programmes

There may well be an underlying hardware problem

Never had any other AV on this machine, as stated in my original message. It must be a hell of a coincidence for a hardware problem to manifest itself upon upgrading Avast to 8.0.1497.

I have tried to erase all traces of Avast with the cleaner in Safe mode, but still get the same five error popups during boot-up and also noticed that Avast still creates a log under Program data. Where else can I look for remains of Avast, there is nothing left under Program files ?
