Please help...Avast seems to have blocked my access

Hi all.
Started my pc on Friday and for some reason i cant log on.The Avast icon in the corner of my screen has a “no entry” symbol on it.

When i try to log on it says “The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error”.It performed a scan ok and cleared up 18 viruses but still i cannot get on.I cannot even un install as when i open the window it shuts it down after a couple seconds.

I cannot use “system restore” as this too fails.I have gone into "computer management - services and applications - services then start /restore and still nothing.

I am using windows XP.

Thanks in advance

Hi campaign jerry.
What is being blocked? Email/browser/ software updates…or access to something not web-related?
What AV did you use before Avast, and how was it removed?
What firewall do you use?
What OS/build?

Damn !!! that was quick…

Ok,its blocked my internet access…Should have mentioned…

I used AVG before and this was completely removed.

Firewall is the windows one provided with XP…I dont think there is another.

Thanks

So all internet is blocked? Email clients and browsing? Can Avast connect for database updates?

You don’t say what version of AVG used, nor how it was removed, nor your OS, but try downloading and running this tool (choose the correct one for your system–if 32bit it’s the first on the page: http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Following this, which should do the job, it might be necessary to do a full uninstall/removal/reinstall of Avast, but lets see how running the tool worked.

RPC erros are generally due to remains of an old antivirus installation…
Internet access problems are generally due to firewall blockings…
Are you really sure that neither AVG neither an old firewall are still running in your computer?
