The avast! help file would be a good place to start and an excellent source of information.
Also see image.
This option may leave you vulnerable as it can also detect trojan spambots by detecting multiple emails in a short period of time indicating you have a problem that could have your ISP account withdrawn for spamming, even though you are unaware of it.
Why would you want to disable outbound scanning - perhaps we can suggest an other option ?
Hi David. Thanks for your reply. Even with that option unchecked, outgoing emails are being scanned. It’s strange. Do you know why?
I want to disable outbound scanning just to accelerate the process. Please let me know if there’s any other option.
Thanks again,
R.
As David R told, I have no idea why you want outbound email messages not to be scanned? If they are clean, where comes your desire?
It is no privacy breach, just an antivirus scan to what you send out.
Should not take much processing power. All happens in your computer, nothing to broke your privacy.
You can also use webmail like gmail, to send emails. That too does not allow easy to send infected email attachements etc.
How do you know your outbound email is being scanned ?
Have you checked the Internet Mail, Last Scanner (should show outbound email ‘email subject details’ and scanned count: (should increase), it is important not to confuse avast icon activity with email scanning (which may be inbound). I also don’t know why as there is insufficient information to indicate outbound email is in fact being scanned.
Life is a compromise and I certainly wouldn’t consider disabling outbound scanning (which is if nothing else some comfort to those you send email to), just to improve speed. Especially when you don’t say if you are having say timeout warnings, or if it relates to when you are sending emails with large attachments, nor what your internet connection is, etc.
