0x20000004 error is a “proxy down” error, i.e., server unreachable (or, in other words, “cannot connect to the updating server”). Is there any other Firewall installed on the machine besides Windows own firewall? Have you had any previous anti-virus program installed on this computer before installing avast? The last way is check your hosts file to see if there are any entries that could be blocking avast’s update servers. A blank “default” configuration of the windows hosts file should basically have only one entry (127.0.0.1 localhost).

Online armor is my firewall currently installed on my pc beside of windows firewall. Avira AV is my previous program before i install the Avast. Should i stop online armor running before installing the avast?

Thanks for reply.

I think you shouldn’t have two firewalls active.
I don’t remember if avast needs to connect during installation, I think not.
If it needs, the firewall should ask to do so and you allow.

The windows firewall is off while the online armor is on and i allow it everytime i run the avast setup installation. I already restart the pc, i delete the temp files and try again but failed over again :frowning:

The file should be setupeng.exe and seems that CNET one is corrupted. Download from avast site.

Ok thanks im just downloaded now the file (setupeng.exe) from avast website and hopefully this will fix the problem ;D

Online Armor can be a bit of a pig on occasion when it comes to new applications, set it to learning mode for a while for it to get used to what avast is doing.

avast_home_setup.exe is only about 300kb, and all it seems to do is try to download the real setup program. This strikes me as a poor design decision, since a wise user will want to have their anti-virus fully functional before they even consider connecting to the internet. I’ve personally seen computers infected in less than a minute after connecting to the internet, and I’m pretty sure the download will take longer than that.

Anyway, this is what you get if you download from Cnet, or if you click the “download from our site” link directly below the Cnet button on the download page. I think the site designers need to rethink this.

Hello phoff,

This has been mentioned quite a few times here, like you have said, many people feel that the ‘universal setup file’ is the wrong way to go, and the website may need a reshuffle…

You can download the full setup file also from the site, below the ‘universal setup file’
