Please Help me! (problems with hotmail)

Hi Guys,
I am an italian boy so i don’t understand well the english language…But i need help! :-\

I have the “avast 4.7 version”… Today avast finds a new malware in my account

http://by103fd.bay103.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/HoTMaiL?curmbox=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&a=184509a9a3b72361215b81fa16cf67acfef234fdce23abe257f330e8a4de991a&from=getmsg\unp226857965

but the only action that i can do is “close the connection”… So i can’t access to my account because avast closes the page automatically when i push “close the connection”…

What can i do??? ???
I’m sorry for my english ::slight_smile:

Please check that your virus definitions file (VPS) is updated to 761-1 or higher.

Hi Alan

My Vps is updated to 761-1 …

That should have corrected this detection, have you checked again ?

I had that problem yesterday, too. I tried to check my mail right now but I believe MSN is fixing this on one of their mail servers (that both you & I use to view our email)…

It wasn’t an MSN issue, but a VPS update incorrectly detecting a script as harmful once the VPS was corrected no problem.

I agree with you… that there was difficulty logging into accounts that were affected by this issue, even after avast released the update that fixed the false positive.

Hi snagglegrain,

According to me, and I checked the link with DrWeb’s av hyperlink checker, it could well be a FP. Just see what jotti or virustotal gives if you upload that file.

polonus

does VPS update automatically. how do i update it manually??

VPS updates do happen automatically if you have told avast to do so.

You can update it manually by right clicking the avast icon > Updating > iAVS update

Yes, I know it would be nice if the avast team could be consistent in what they call VPS/iAVS

For automatic updates (and for another chance at manual update) right click the avast icon > Program Settings >
Update (Basic) > make your choice for Virus updates and Program updates.

The recommendations are Automatic for Virus Database and Ask for Program Update.
