I bought the magic jack for myself like a year ago and it works fine. My brother has his own computer at his house but isnt too computer savy. He had dialup forever until I just got dsl for him. Then I bought him a magic jack for his home because he was tired of his phone bill.
On his computer everytime I would cut it on, it would have Avast on the main screen saying that his free trial or whatever was up. It was annoying as it was always on there so I went to remove programs & removed it. After that is when I tried to setup the magic jack but the registration screen would never pop up. It would always stay blank white. I never had any problems at my house but this kept happening to his.
Then he also has aol which has always worked fine but ever since I removed the avast, he’s been having problems with his aol. Some real estate people send him links & pictures of houses. He can open every link but when he clicks on a mls listing to view the house, it never opens. Im talking about, its like you never even clicked it. Nothing will pop open. Its not blank, it wont even open. Then I will try to go to “my account” on aol to change some things and that screen is just blank.
I called magic jack about helping me setup the magic jack. They tried everything but nothing worked. They even shared the computer but couldnt fix it. They think its something with security but I told them that I dont have any security stuff anymore and they also tried disabling my firewall & so on but it doesnt work. Then I contacted aol about that not working right. They also tried everything but couldnt fix it. They thought the caches & cookies were damaged but when I fixed that, it didnt work. Then I uninstalled & reinstalled aol but that didnt work either.
Then I just came to the avast site and saw where it said that just removing it from the programs might not get rid of it. My question is do you guys think avast is causing the problem? How come everything was working before I removed it but me removing it caused the security to shut everything down? That seems a little backwards to me. It seems like the security got tighter when I supposedly removed it.
If I use the aswclear to remove it, should it be fine then? I saw how avast said to remove it but could someone give me there directions because I guess Im not too computer savy either & it seemed a little complicated. I also forgot to add that when I was done talking to the aol person from a live chat, I clicked on the top of the page to copy the chat & something came back to me saying that my security wont allow me to copy it. Thats why I know there is something wrong that is blocking alot of things.
BTW, I never payed attention to which Avast one he had so thats why I havent used the aswclear yet because I dont even know what he was using. Can someone please help? Thank you
