Please Help Me With WMF Exploit Worm

Hi. Last night while surfing the net, avast alerted me that I had encountered a virus, WMF Exploit, and that it was in the c:\Documents and Settings\local\Temporary Internet Files. At the same time there was a pop-up saying the file was being loaded, but it had stopped at 83% Avast recommended moving it to the chest. I tried over and over to do this and all I got was a pop-up saying avast was unable to do this because the file was being used or something like that. I got the same pop-up when I tried to delete it or repair it. I also couldn’t delete my temp. internet files. I tried for hours. Also it couldn’t be removed by the avast virus cleaner.
Today I ran the scan again and got the alarm, but this time it allowed me to move it to the chest. And I deleted my T I Files, but afterwards when I open the folder there are still files there.
After running ewido scan and getting nothing, I’m still uneasy about this virus. I’m afraid to shut off my system for fear that restarting it might cause something worse to happen. Any advice, suggestions or help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry this is so long, but I’m worried and new to computers and have no technical knowledge whatsoever.
My system is an HP Pavilion.
WIndows XP version 2002 service pack 2
Intel Celeron processor 531 mhz
128mb of ram
Windows is my only firewall and I use avst 4.6

Hello and welcome

From your words I understand that you have removed the malware.
But just to be sure you can do a boot-time scan with avast! To do a boot-time scan → Program menuShouldle Boot-time scan

You don’t have to be worry about that, there are always some temp files in the temp folder

Thank you, Xmas. I tried it and it reported no viruses. Thanks again.
