Uninstall your current version of 4.8 from the Add/Remove programs in your Control Panel. Reboot into safe mode.
Use the avast uninstall utility instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Reboot, Install the newest version and insert your license file.

Yes, that should work just fine. Once the license is inserted, it will convert into the full product. I think you have to convert your old license to the new one first though, and I believe that can be done here: http://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php

hello doc, i downloaded the free trial A 6.0 ok, it updated ok, nice interfase, but it doesnt accept my licence number… it asks for an activation code… ???

Also, Use the email which you entered while buying avast version 4. It will not work for other email ids.
