Please help: win32:malware-gen ETUNISER.dll virus/trojan alert by Avast

Hello all,

My girlfriends laptop gave this warning about an hour ago, I’ve been trying to find out if it’s alarming or not. But I could use some help by pro’s

Here goes:

I placed the ‘infected’ dll in the chest afterwards. How should I proceed?
The laptop is a Acer Aspire, vista HP with sp2.
According to the avast logfiles, the ‘infected’ file has been present on the laptop since 13 november. But this is the first time there was a warning (popup) from avast.

Hi,
you can send us the file for analyse. Pack them to password protected archive using password “infected” without quotes and send to virus@avast.com with subject “False positive”. For creating password protected archive you can use free tool 7-zip

Milos

ok will do.

does that mean i need not worry about the laptop anymore?

thanks for the reply.

R.

Hi,
it depends, how does it come from. Maybe there is some installer of this file, which we don’t detect and may cause repeated creation of this file.

Milos

This file is now detected by 19/41 including Avast http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/488faefad8870dd0bc64eac9f248f76b1c2d62fcb5d297dbfc174b692d363f2a-1259335142

Hi micky77,

It is a so-called Smitfraud trojan variant -
SAS also removes it: http://www.superantispyware.com/malwarefiles/ETUNISER.DLL.html

polonus

SAS free download link: http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE

P.S. no further issues in the hjt logfile of your Acer and Epson printer software.
You apparently do not run an active dual way software firewall,
