Please look at my Hijack this file?

Help please,

Take a look and let me know what you think. My computer is acting really strange and my anti virus says nothing is wrong.

Hmmmm… you have AVG and this is the avast! forum, but we’re always willing to help!

Looks like you have a hosts file hijack.

Go to-

Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\

-and rename the hosts file to hosts.old and reboot.

As an additional check, there are a number of free adware/spyware scanners you can try.

Spybot Search & Destroy
SUPERAntiSpyware Free
a-Squared Free
Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware

Update Windows if possible:

A newer version of service pack is available. Service packs increase the safety of your system. Visit Microsoft's windowsupdate site to download the newest version of the service pack.

Also scan here for other out-of-date and insecure software and update.

Thank you so much!

I have installed Avast now and ran it again. Found all kinds of stuff.

I still have a problem with booting that when I log in I have a file called userinit.exe or somthing like that. What it does is opens up a file and folder window and explorer doesnt start automatically. I just have a blank destop and have to start explorer.exe manually.

I have attached my new hijackthis file.

Thanks again!

 Hi :

Your Hijackthis Log shows the “Presence” of 3 different antiVIRUS programs;
a computer Principle is that when an antiVIRUS program is “Installed”, ALL
PRIOR antiVIRUS programs should be COMPLETELY REMOVED . So AVG should
be removed by using the appropiate “Tool” at www.avg.com/download-tools ,
most likely the First One on the “List” . There are also some Symantec/Norton
Items in the Log, so should use the Norton Removal Tool, One of which is
available at www.majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html .

Should have MORE than an antiVIRUS program for computer protection ; most
of us recommend Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, available at
www.malwarebtes.org/mbam.php AND “SUPERAntiSpyware”, available at
www.superantispyware.com , BOTH of which come in FREE Version(s) .

P.S. Your Java program is slightly outdated, a security risk . Best to have ONLY
the latest “Version/Update” on a computer, so should uninstall ALL Version(s),
then go to www.java.com and get the latest “Version” .

As Spiritsongs says, 3 AV’s is a no-no.

Uninstall avast!

Reboot.

Uninstall AVG.

Reboot.

Run the AVG removal tool.

Reboot.

Run the Symantec removal tool.

Reboot.

Reinstall avast!

You may need to repair your XP installation if userinit.exe has been infected.

If you don’t have a Windows CD- a restore CD or partition is common- boot into that and see what options you have.
