I am sick of junk such as dropbox being installed along with Avast every time it updates. Please stick to the product sold and stop trying to force money-grab programs on customers.
Your once excellent product is quickly become bloat-ware.
I simply want a good virus checker and firewall. Is that to much to ask, or am I to look elsewhere?
Do a custom install and you can choose to be without dropbox, Grimefighter or whatever you do not like to additionally install.
Alas we arrived at days where you should always check what you download and install.
I have custom install, and have to un-tick nearly everything, there is so much garbage now that comes along with the package. When the program informs me it needs to update, it also installs junkware. It’s so annoying.
When I first bought Avast years ago, it was none intrusive and simply ran in the back ground doing it’s job and doing it well.
Now I get pop-up asking do I want this and that, try’s to sell me rubbish that I have no need of. Honestly, Avast has become as bad as the programs that it suppose to protect me from.
1 - The safe zone for the most part doesn’t work.
2 - The optimize your computer, leaves your computer running like a dog.
3 - The scan of .exe, scan’s them over and over when I know they are virus free. This usually then causes the program to crash.
4 - The .exe scan once deleted a program that it had taken me 2 weeks to write. It was a good job I had a back-up.
5 - Update essential programs is a pain in the ***.
I could go on for hours.
Up until the last year or so I have been very happy with Avast, but I have come to the point of am seriously thinking of a good alternative.
Sign of the times everybody from marketing relying now on the four P’s, of which promotion is most important. Price is still OK. Bundling is everywhere. Be glad you get a product with additions that aren’t a threat, like a specific AV toolbar, that was recently in the news.
The basic scanner is still available, the shields work great, the software updater is OK, the update routine is not too bad either. So for basic protection I would not switch for something that may leave me out in the cold.
Now that sounds like just what it needs, one button to destroy them all. I will see if I can find were to download the beta. Ty.
@ polonus, I would expect all of that if I was using a free version, but I pay a good amount per year for this, and I expect it to be free of adds and bloat ware.
I love my Avast Malware that I pay bigger bucks for over the free version…but I have followed the instructs to get rid of the “junk”…absolutely HATE the pop ups telling me I have ad-ons that need removed…thought ok remove them…ALL IT TURNS OUT TO BE IS A WAY TO GET YAHOO AS YOUR MAIN ENGINE…PLEASE STOP IT…I DO NOT WANT YAHOO AS MY MAIN SEARCH OR THEIR TOOL BAR OR ANYTHING ELSE THEY ARE OFFERING…
Thanks Bob, that got rid of of the flipping adds, which should have been off as default. I guess they took the block all-rubbish-button out of the final release. I would have to reinstall to get rid of all that I guess.
Avast had better be careful, they are going to start losing a lot of custom over this.
I have 109 days left on my present subscription. If Avast don’t get their act together by the time that 109 days is up, then I will find a virus package that does it’s job without the harassment.
The it is always trying to remove what is not Avast’s stuff or commercial friend. Like Google or wolfram mathematica. But they try to suggest Yahoo and the lousy Bing search bar. Why?
They are asking for money all the time.
I dont feel too much secure with that security software.
