If you decide to use Comodo FW disable the behavior blocker. 
I Have used Avast Internet Security (the paid version) a couple years now. Its a extremely good package. The only time I have had any problems were self inflicted, turning off the shields to download something and not doing regular scans 
Before you purchase, check on the various issues with Windows 8 that have been posted recently in the avast free/Pro/Suite forum. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0 . I would not recommend downloading it for Windows 8 with the current patch for avast 8. There are too many issues that are unknown at the moment and no one has a fix for them, yet.
That is alas a system specific issue, I have run all the betas and the final on a 64bit 8 system with no problems at all

What issues? I am running Avast8 on Windows8PRo with Media Center and it is/has shown ‘No issues’ with my OS configuration.
Should mention the Avast developers have done a “bang on job” at making Avast Windows 8 compatible.
