i need help cleaning the virus called win32/SillyDI.AFU plz help i saw it today and tried runnning the anti-virus provided by my dsl service but it cant do anything with it not even quarentine it. i have not installed avast yet but can someone help me by telling me how to clean files. note: when u try to delete it it says acces denied use not given premission plz help very urgent!

Are you using Windows XP?
Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
Send infected files to Chest (or, if it’s not allowed, delete them).

Access denied means, generally, that the file is in use by another process (program) and cannot be repaired/cleaned/moved/handled by avast!

@ Tech, this is the relevant bit "i have not installed avast yet " so erkansus will have to install avast first.

Files in use (including viruses) and in system folders are protected by windows.

Without avast we can’t really offer any advice on how to deal with a problem on another AV, that we don’t even know. I suggest that you download avast and save it to a location on your HDD that you can find it again. Go off-line, uninstall your existing AV, reboot and install avast!

In order to help fully we need more information…

  • What OS are you using? is it up to date?

  • What was the filename, where was it found
    example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?

  • What is your existing anti-virus ?

Have you tried an on-line scanner ?

 Hi Erkansus :

Not sure you actually have a "virus"; probably would be
best to install, then run "A-squared ( Free )", available
 from www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free .

Since erkansus mentioned ca as the anti-virus, I went there and found this …

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/virus.aspx?ID=39574

CA says it is a trojan downloader. So, maybe A-squared will remove it as Spiritsongs mentioned.

ok ty very much guys i’ll try it out

hey guys i tried the a-squared online scan it found it then i downloaded the personel addition to delete it and when i try to open it the trojan shuts it down why?

Try starting your computer in Safe Mode and running a-squared from Safe Mode.

ok peeps thanks for all your help i fixed it i did a sytem restore for windows millenium and then ran a-squared and deleted 10 trojans from my computer than i ran my anti-virus software and it said my computer was clean again thank you guys for all your help.

You are welcome, erkansus.

Glad we could help you.

Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.
