There might have been some small errors about avast in this Nov. 2010 writeup but all in all,
avast did very well. IMHO

Avast Free Antivirus couples good all-around malware detection with a speedy, well-designed package. We liked its easy installation process, smooth interface design, and minimal impact on system performance.

There are errors on comparing paid and free versions.
It is negative with some free solutions calling them “basic” or “simple”.
This is misleading in my opinion.
