Poor client performance

On most or our machines, we are running the client ok. On a couple of older machine (4-5 years), we have had some performance issues. Largely slow opening of programs like Internet Explorer taking 30 seconds to a minute. When I open the XP task manager, I don’t see any significant CPU usage.

I haven’t had much of a chance to troubleshoot, but I wonder if anyone has suggestions to tweak performance. Also, does the network and server load affect the client?

A few notes, when I did the client install, I uninstalled 4.8 and used aswclear.
One client, I have tried uninstalling several times.

instead of CPU performance you have to check disk performance
How much memory do the machines have?

Which kind of disk connection is in the deskop? IDE or SATA?

One as 1 gig. the other has 4 gig.

Pretty sure the 1 gig one is PATA. Not sure about the other.

Did you check the disk activity of both?

Not yet. I have had other fires.

I did ask if it seemed if the disk was chugging and they did not think so.

Hopefully in the next few days I can check.
