Pop-up Ads in Avast (Is Avast going down the same path as Avira)

So is Avast going down in the same route as Avira. For some days I’ve getting pop-up ads asking me to “like” the facebook page to win Microsoft surface/to win the premium license.

Is there any way to disable it. Is Avast en route to showing different types of pop-up ads from now on.

I think certain times the pop-ups are about Windows 8 like what my friends are telling…

Post a screenshot.

Yeah I would during the time the next one appears, but the one that just appeared asked me to click on a link that re-directed to this page (telling me that I had a chance to win if I became a fan): https://www.facebook.com/avast?sk=app_434829496574910&app_data={"ref"%3A"web"}

You’ll need to be more than just a fan to win the iPad. :smiley:

First you would have to have a facebook account, which I will never signup for, but I have no problem with avast giving things away.

I’m a fan of Avast on Facebook but not interested in trying to win a free iPad.

Boohoo…ITS A FREE ANTIVIRUS. Dont like then pay for it. Oh well. ::slight_smile:

Last I heard it was win a Microsoft Surface.

Just checked and you’re right. I don’t even know what that is. Will google search now.

Is this what we’re talking about?

That’s what I’ve seen, but figured since I’m using a free product that I expect to see some advertising. I might be upset if I seen this in the paid version though.

This pop-up ad as Vladimyr post the screen shot above is only temporarily, and I’m sure Avast is not going down the same path way as Avira or AVG that some AV companies like showing ad’s.

I haven’t seen it in AIS

As far as I know, you can disable all like buttons and “ads” in the paid version. I did that and never had those. Though now I use Webroot SAAV and Comodo Firewall (together with MBAM free) at least until they manage to fix the Windows 8 issues.

And to me, it shows.

Security essentials whould have been a better choice. The Windows 8 “problem” is only a problem on some systems. I’ve never had a problem on the 4 computers I use. :slight_smile:

It all depends who does the testing. WD doesn’t have any web shields though. I actually do have Avast IS installed too as on demand scanner and scripts shield installed.
