It is a new option as there were a lot of people asking for this so they knew when it was running so they didn’t get into anything CPU or RAM intensive or shutdown the computer whilst it was running. Currently there isn’t a specific option to disable it. There is another topic on this, but what I find strange is that people schedule scans when they are going to be working on the computer.
I have mine set to a time when a) the computer is going to be on and b) at a time when I’m not likely to be working on the computer. So far I have only ever seen this once, but I have a large monitor so it doesn’t take up much space for me.
Have you ever considered using the screen saver scan which would only start when the system is idle.
Thanks for the reply. Since I’m on and off the computer during most of the day, I just set things to run at definite, specific times (usually, in the late afternoon).
Honestly, I’ve never had any problems or complaints with Avast’s background scan. I didn’t notice any perceivable drag on resources . . . and, I’m still using XP! I just installed Avast, set it to work, and it just worked. I didn’t have to re-arrange how I was using my computer.
Now, apparently I have to, since I’m interrupted when the scan begins and there is no way to turn the option off. I don’t understand the usefulness of this feature.
I don’t work for avast so I can’t say anything other than to reiterate that people asked for it for the reason mentioned.
As I said I have only ever seen it once and I have found out why and this may help you avoid it. Because of my helping on the forums I generally have my avastUI open, but minimised to the taskbar and when that is the case you don’t see the pop-up. Only when the avastUI is closed do I see it.
You can of course click the X in the top right of the pop-up to close it (image).
